about us

The Aboriginal word “Paratea” means Pretty Flower, which perfectly describes the surrounding bushland at Paratea Preschool.

Our exceeding service, Paratea Preschool, is located in Frankston South surrounded by untouched bushland. We are a non-profit, community based preschool run by a volunteer parent committee. Since 1974 Paratea has provided a vibrant, flexible and inquisitive educational program to local children. We operate a weekly Bush Kinder program within the Paratea Reserve and embed nature and play based philosophy in our program. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are embedded in our program and we are very proud to have published our RAP.
Paratea Pre-School is an independent Preschool located in Frankston South surrounded by untouched bushland. Paratea is run by a Committee of parents who are responsible for the management of our Pre-School. Paratea Pre-School is one of the last remaining independent Kindergartens in the Frankston Council Region. This means we are able to run our Kindergarten environment and program specifically to meet the needs of our Families and Children.

On March 2nd 1974 a plaque was unveiled by his worship The Mayor of the City of Frankston, Councillor C.L Falkiner, J.P,  to commemorate the official opening of Paratea Preschool (City of Frankston proclaimed 1966). The Aboriginal word Paratea means ‘pretty flowers’ which describes the Paratea Reserve that surrounds the preschool perfectly. The Paratea Preschool Committee approved a new logo in 2012, the logo was designed to represent the location of our preschool reflecting the pretty flowers and natural surroundings. The embracing branches represent nurture, growth and the natural changes of our children’s learning.
At Paratea we aim to:
– Create a welcoming, friendly and positive learning environment for the children, staff and families of Paratea.
– Form mutually respectful relationships with families so we ensure the best outcomes and learning experiences for each child.
– Create play spaces that encourage diversity, investigation and discovery.
– Foster an environment that caters for different learning capacities and styles.
– Incorporate the natural environment around us into the educational program and promote sustainability.

“The wider the range of possibilities we offer children, the more intense will be their motivations and the richer their experiences”
